Turbo problems
« on: 04:00AM 01/13/2004 »
Ok so my SS is put away for the winter so that means that my 87 Chrysler lebaron comes out. Well it has a stock turbo and i started to play with it and i put a homemade boost controler on it. The problem is that when the turbo starts pullin hard (about 3500-4500rpm) it cuts out  then pulls  kinda like a studder over and over. and it only does it at full throttle. any ideas? My buddy has the same setup in his 88 dodge shadow and it works for him.. WTF?

there could be a boost leak somewhere. get the system pressure tested.

Sounds like it could be a boost leak...check your vacuum lines and all of that stuff.

a big boost leak would cause the car to studder and feel like it was stalling because there wouldn't be enough air for the ammount of fuel being burned. check your vacuum lines and whatever you're using as the boost controller.  my friend put a home made BC on his impulse and had to fix it a couple times because of the same problem.

Boost leaks are also bad for turbo efficiency.  It has to work harder to supply the set amount of pressure.

Even if it isn't the cause of your problem you would do well to check for leaks.

The preferable way is to clamp a device like this onto the inlet of the turbos compressor housing and use a air compressor.

i would put money on it being a fuel cut to limit the car from overboosting.  i know that mitsu's have them to get it to work properly i bet you will need to get something to clamp the voltage to the the ecu from map or maf.  there are numerous products out there that will cure this they are usually pretty pricy though.

also it could be a boost leak i doubt it though it would do it most of the time if there was a leak that was significant enough to make the car feel like it turns off.
