Engine Swapping
« on: 07:01AM 09/24/2003 »
I'm wanting to do an engine swap in my 99' Civic Ex in the next say, 9-10 months when i get the funds. I'm looking to get a B16b or B18c motor from Spoon. I don't know which one would fit the easiest but I'm wanting to go with the b18c since it produces more power/torque. I was wondering what would be the best way to go about getting the motor into the car, or if I should just get it done professionally. I know the blocks from Spoon don't come with a tranny or anything like that so I need to know where I could look for to get a Lsd tranny and the ecu, linkages, axles, etc. for these motors. I want to get the stuff to go with the engine as new as possible bc the motor is rebuilt to be like brand new. Also I need to know someone who sells the mounts for these motors to fit in my car.

I would definately get the LSD tranny no matter what motor you get. I would just get a swap that includes everything you need to swap the motor then use all the extra cash you will save (from not buying the spoon longblock)  and buy some cams, engine management, get a P and P done on the head, and get it all tuned to perfection. The B18C5 swap comes with the lsd tranny, and all of the small things you will need to do the swap, plus it is an amazing motor.

It will be a simple swap...hondas fit each other....you'll obvioulsy need to do some work...but no real retrofitting will be needed....(as far as i know) you need the  mounts and shiznanny.....but like OL said...just buy the motor...and get stuff done to it...people fear honda's that have "spoon" motors...just cause F&F...they wouldn't know what spoon was if it wasn't for that....just get what OL said done...you'll be flying.....

spoon motor's are good if you want the bling factor, or are going for a high endurance road race beast. you might as well pay the same ammount of money for an entire JDM 98 spec B18C or B16B swap and get everything you need for the swap instead of buying a balanced bare longblock with a cool JDM brand name and still have more than $3k to spend on tranny, mounts, shift linkage, intake/exhaust manifolds, so on and so fourth. that's my $.02

BTW i believe spoon discontinued their crate motor program later last year.
