Hydro-lock?
« on: 02:09PM 09/13/2003 »
I just got the official word from a mitsubishi district rep on the condition of my car (2000 eclipse w/2.4L 16 vavle)...he's calling it hydro-lock.  Some details; cylinder one has 4 of 4 valves bent and cylinder two has 1 of 4 valves bent.  The car never siezed, stalled, or anything along those lines. Can anyone give me some good, sound tech advice on what really happens and the conditions behind hydro-locking your engine.  BTW, the time frame this would of happened during, SLC didn't receive anymore than .50" in any given day.

Don't give up what you want most for what you want now.  It's a matter of priorities.

When I drove my Probe a lot of other Probe drivers and forums would say that it was common with them.  Assuming I'm understanding what you're saying.  :dunno:  I never had it happen to mine, but I guess the placement of the intake was pulling in enough water during raining, driving through puddles, etc. to cause the problem.  It would cause the car to seize though.  I wouldn't know if your car isn't seizing.  Their solution was aftermarket intakes.

yeah, I understand if water came in through the intake, but one would think it would have to rain a little and like you said...it never siezed or anything.
