HAHA!  Technology has advanced, but I doubt that much.  I wish!  You would never need a designated driver again!  Woo Hoo!  They do need autopilot for cars though.  That would be the s h i t.

You steer *L*. I mean you say where you wanto go like " New York " and it will take you to new york with you steering it.

It sais " turn right at the next corner in 120 metred " and it just talks to you and gives you the directions.

Also if you turn to sharp the computer in the car yells at you.

I got the tv installed and I was watching it while I was at a traffic light, a police man pulled up beside me and gave me introuble for watching it, I got a ticked :(

Then he started watching the show since it was his best show, (stupid guy) *LOL*

Tsk Tsk, you being in the military and all I figured you would have known they already have Humvee's fitted with an automated driver system.  They are also protoyping some in use for personal vehicles.  It has sensors in both bumpers as well as a camera.  The computer follows visual lines on the road and when it senses the vehicle is getting too close to the other vehicle equiped with the same sensors is slows down and maintains a safe distance.  This technology is probably abot 30-50 years down the road but rest assured it will happen.

That'll be sweet, in our lifetime we won't have to commute if we don't want to.  ;D

Yep  :-\  If I ever have the police following I turn it off.  Not sure the exacts, but the driver can't have a visible monitor during operation.

Honestly I think utah has some of the dumbest laws!! You go to any other state and they care about people's houses and s h i t like that, not bull s h i t car laws!

I can understand the watching tv while driving thing.  I shure as hell wouldn't want someone rear-ending me because they wanted to catch the last part of Oprah.  But I do think they should limit it to actually being on while the car is running, not just being visible to the driver.

the no visible screen law makes alot of sense... a lot of accidents are caused because the driver is distracted... and watching tv would definantly quality as distracted.

Its all about cost.  seriously they wouldn't be able to do it unless other cars had a sending unit to let each other (car computers) know how far they are. Also they "lines" couldn't just be white lines they would have to some how be made readable for the sensor. And just simple changes in light throughout the day would mean they would either have to have some sort of chemical that would show up only on special sensors or have a electric charge. None of these options are cheap and thus I don't see them even in the next 30 years.

I am putting a computer in my car (as in a normal pc) so I can play mp3's, get on the net, use gps (way cheaper then his option) play games, watch dvd's pretty much anything you can use any computer for.  It all started when I was looking at aem ems which would require a laptop all the time (or atleast when I wanted to tune or load fuel maps) Besides I had one in my mustang and it was awsome ;)
