H22 hatch?
« on: 01:47PM 07/20/2003 »
So I just want everyone's opnion. I talked to a guy down at RMR, he is runnin a 13.9. In his hatch he has a h22 with a spoon chip, and a intake, that is all...and he is runnin a 13.9

now ive heard that people have problems turning right, and that they can't be dumped becuz the oil pan will hit....well this guy said he autocrosses all the time, he never hits (and hes tucking) his oil pan....do you think this should be the route for me to take.....my money is now going back up, so i might be able to get it soon...

what is everyones opinion on what motor to get for my hatch?

brandon's hatch kicks a s s. its gonna be bad when he starts working on the motor.

the only people that accuse H22 civics with scraping the pan or having problems turning either have never driven an H22 civic, or dont have a front sway bar. i think the H22 only weighs like 75lbs more than a B16, and the torque more than makes up for the weight. definately the best bang for the buck motor for drag racing, i would imagine the only problem would be changing out the shift linkage, but if you have it installed at a shop you dont really need to worry about it.

i was just on www.jdmhondaparts.com last night, and they have complete JDM H22A swaps on special for $1,995 right now. i'd call them unless ricky can get you a better deal.

1995 is a good price but a lot more will have to be spent on axles, mounts, etc, etc. This car habit we have is not good for the savings account.

Don't listen to people that say that you can't turn with a H22 in a H/B. My brother in Alaska just got his done in an EG. He had:

USDM H22A
Fidanza Flywheel
Intake
Custom 2.5" Exhaust

On BFG Drag Radials, in Alaskan, he ran a 13.4. Not bad considering that was his first time at the track and for what little modifications he had. The H22 swap is a little more trickier, but the B-Series swap will have more options in the way of modifications. H22's are getting cheeper, so I can see where it would be a hard decision. I would do the B-Series, just alot easier in my opinion.

Just capping on what JP said. H22 swap is a little more trickier. All this noise about understeer or oversteer is a bunch of crap. I said this a numerous of times with the proper suspension setup you'll be fine. You just cant compare the stock torque and topend to any other B or H series motor. In a snatchy you'll be tearing up the streets with that setup. Thats my .02  and thats a fact.

EG, I would just start saving up and when you have your mind made up you can spring for the new set up. It took me a long a s s time to decide what I wanted, but I will be on happy guy when I am breaking that thing in.
