Turbo Integras
« on: 05:22PM 07/15/2003 »
My friend got his GS-R turboed and is getting misfire codes.  The guys at the shop think it might be the distributor.  Those of you who have turboed your integras (or have done motor swaps and turboed) would you let me know if you've had any problems like this and what you did to fix it.  He said it's misfiring on 3 cylinders.

Talk to twinner007...he has been getting misfire codes, but Modern Garage has figured out why. I think it had to do with the injector size. They are large injectors, but he's almost at full duty cycle which is throwing his computer through a loop. There was also an issue with non-stock ignition wires, the stock one worked better on his car than any of the after market ones.
Don't give up what you want most for what you want now.  It's a matter of priorities.

How much boost is he running, what size are his injectors, and what kind of power is he making.  Is the code saying he is having a mis-fire on all four cylinders...if so it is nothing to worry about...if your car was truely mis-firing on all four it wouldn't even run.  I just read into the thread some more -- mis-firing on 3.  The problem can be narrowed down to the injector size in most cases.  My car was and has been doing the same thing.  I have RC 370's and 230 whp and the injectors are just about to max out.  I only get the code under certain driving conditions.  I am not sure how his car is tuned, but my injectors were not delivering enough fuel.  The fuel delivery was off -- it needs to be a short spray with more fuel = higher fuel pressure, or long spray with less fuel = lower fuel pressure.  I hope I have that right.

He defintely needs to upgrade his injectors, I would go with the 440 or 550, there is no way that the stock injectors can deliver the required fuel...you can always check out RC's website.  They have an equation that helps you to pick out what injector size you need.

DSM 450's are good, very affordable. i dunno how great they are on the tuning side of things.

We use RC's injectors in our RX-7's they are the best.  at 9lbs of boost 440's should be more than enough.

550's would be over kill, that what we are running on our Road-Race FC3S with 12lbs

We have a GSR runnin on 10lbs, daily driven with about 35,000 miles on the Greddy Turbo Kit, and its running on 310's.  Fuel management is the key. Dumping lots of fuel is not always the answer, tuning is whats balances everything.  A good fuel pressure regulator matched up with an FMU (fuel management Unit) and at least something like a VAFC to tune it all should solve your problem.   Fuel tuning is the key with boosting.  Also make sure you have quality plugs and wires.

my other friend said my buddy with the gsr has the rest of the fuels stuff upgraded except the injectors.  my car has 310 cc honda injectors running  7-9lbs.  thats a 6 cyl though. i dunno how much of a difference that makes.
