Painting my interior?
« on: 07:11AM 05/09/2003 »
I drive a '99 Volkswagen GTI. I noticed the Make 3 generation was really easy to take out most of the interior and all of my friends had painted their's a color they wanted.

Does anyone know how to remove my interior so I can paint it red? Volkswagen really found a way to make everything tied together lol but obviously it all comes out

Hmm... haven't messed with the VW's.  I'm always down for checking it out though.  I pulled my interior and "refurbished" it.  I have since replaced it back with original interior, but it was deemed the Fur'd Probe  ;D

Instead of painting, have you ever thought of the interior dash kits?  I bought an aluminum one, and so far it looks pretty good.  And the benefit of this, is that if I get sick of it, I can just take it off.  W/ paint you lose that option.

Not only do most dash kit manufacturers offer aluminum, but in any color you want too.

I got my s h i t for pretty cheap off ebay.  And I didn't think it was too hard to install.  But then again, I drive a Honda..hehe.

HAHA then you have NOidea what complex design is! I think volkswagen holds the record for hiding their products and making it so you HAVE to have the dealer install it for you! lol

Typically most dashes start to come apart around the radio bezel.  then unravel from there.
To really understand something you must blow it up, and  fully examine the tiny particles while they are still on fire.

Well like thats the thing.. I install audio systems so I had to take out the radio part and guess what... I saw NO way to get the dash off.. I really don't know if I can. I bet its one of those manufacturer scams where you HAVE to have the manufacturer change something..

Hmm, the only thing I can suggest besides getting a manual would be to take it to them and ask a tech how they get them apart.
