Anybody know a good place to get helmets?  You need them at the track when you run faster then a 14 right?

Is a "helmut" like an evil dog?  J/K  it's spelled Helmet  ;)  You can get them at pretty much any dealer for ATV's
To really understand something you must blow it up, and  fully examine the tiny particles while they are still on fire.

no offense SCxMaster, helmets are cheap, I know this from shopping around for one for ATV'n.  If you want something that they'll let you wear, it will more than likely between $100-$200.  And I believe you have to be under or in the low 13's before they'll require you to wear a helmet.

$200 bucks for a good helmet that is Snell 2000 approved is not expensive. Before you can run in any NHRA event it has to have those requirements only if you clock 13.99's or lower.
If you do want a piece of crap helmet that is still Snell 2000 approved then you will still spend about $140. Why not swing an extra $60 bucks and get a nicer one. Just a suggestion.

Btw, Why are you just gonna run twice? All that money you are putting into you car why not show it off and run all season with it?

If I had a bike I would pay that much.  Being in a car I'm not worried about it.  My car isn't going to be THAT fast.

Both my parents are EMT's needless to say, I have seen some "65 mph" crashes.  I don't wear one in my car, but I for sure wear it on my ATV's and sleds.  But it is up to you whether you want a helmet, or a brain bucket.

seeing the flames on that porche reminds me that I want to do it on my car.  Anybody know  how do do this without the sparkplug s h i t?  I think thats ghetto.  but if its the only way to do it, I guess I'll settle.

that porsche is flaming because its boosting 3x (secret) psi and making 900 rwhp on pump gas! not because of ghetto spark plugs...

make enough power and run a short straight thru exhaust without cat and you will kick flames... on porsches the exhaust is only about 6 feet long total, if that... depends on the setup. lots of them kick flames.

Shooting flame out of the exhaust is caused by one thing. Unburnt fuel burning out the end.  There are many ways to get unburnt fuel. One is to run rich. Most high hp cars run rich when they shift or suddenly let off the gas. thus causeing flames out the tail pipes. If you wana shoot flames out your exhaust without making huge hp and just wana do it on demand you can either do it the old fashion way (kill your engines ignition and put a spark in the tail pipe, the problem is this is harmfull to your motor) Or you can install a propain flame kit which shoots propain and has a spark plug at the end. the Bounus to this is that because your engine is still running there won't be much o2 in your exhaust system thus you wont have the flame burning untill after it  leaves the exhaust or right be for it.

not bad for the motor... as long as everything is still getting oil then its fine, and it is, becaues the motor is still turning over. :)

you won't kick flames with a catayltic converter, it will burn up all the unused fuel and make that horrible sulfur smell... thats why they are there, to complete combustion and convert carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. carbon monoxide is a biproduct of incomplete fossil fuel combustion.

most turbo motors kick flame when you lift because the bypass valve dumps off the boost, but the fuel is already atomized and in the intake manifold so it runs rich for an instant, giving that flame... the more horsepower the more fuel its dishing out, so the bigger the flame.

porsche 962's kick a very good sized flame, coming all up in the diffuser and wing... it looks pretty bad a s s from behind.

about the helmets, he's right i was lookin online the other day at more $$ closed face stuf, but i noticed you can pick up an open face snell 2000 certified for ~ 150 and sometimes even less.

i've narrowed my search down to the beiffe f1-gpv or the arai gp-5, i already have a arai gp-3... i'll probably wait until snell 05 comes out and get a new helmet then.

The reason its harmfull to your engine is that the gas will wash any and all oil off the cylender walls thus creating more contact with rings. Which will eventualy cause blow by.  Seen it happen on old hotrods that would through alot of flames at car shows...

NO

not true... sorry but there is no oil in the cylinders above the pistons, if there is, you already have blowby, and it would be burned off anyways, oil cannnot survive in the combustion chamber. all the oiling occurs below the rings, thats why there are always at least 2 rings, a compression seal ring and an oil ring, except maybe in 2 cycles... where there is only one because they burn the oil anyways (it is mixed with the fuel). the oil ring contains all oil below it, tahst why really high mileage cars start to smoke when the rings wear, or if you burn up the rings from running lean / whatever.

no offense Derek, but I don't think your car is fast enough to even need a helmet. Maybe when you run in the 9's or 10's, but I dont see that happening. You would look retarded anyway...a car running 14's with a helmet....haha....you would be the one the guys running 9's and 10's would make fun of....

I dont think so...my friend Tiffany runs 12's and she has never worn one and Ron Craft or anyone at the track has never said nothing. The only thing they really get on your a s s about is if you run in the 9's and you haven't gotten licensed yet.

My Friend Ryan runs 13.1 and they were on his a s s about it the first time he ran without a helmet. He has to wear a helmet at the track everytime he runs now.
Oh and my buddies Dustin and Jeff are firefighters out there, and they say you have to use a helmet.
But whatever. Go run without one.

LaCIEMaY, if you are in the  13's you need a helmet at RMR and any other track that I am aware of, and a roll cage if you break into the 11's, I may be wrong with that number, but I am 110% sure about the helmets.

lol no need to get all uptight ...FAC and twinner007, I'm not saying that its NOT a rule down there that you have to run with a helmet if you are in the 13's or lower. I'm just saying they don't enforce it...atleast with everyone I know. Maybe they dont say nothing because we know everyone down there at the track. So I guess it is all in who you know...or unless Ron Craft decides to be an a s s that day. FAC...Dustin and Jeff know my friend Tiffany (Wade) really well and they have never made her wear a helmet.
