WTB: Jeep Wrangler
« on: 08:27PM 09/02/2004 »
if anyone knows someone who is selling a jeep wrangler, please let me know.
I am looking for something to drive in the winter...here are some of the features I'm looking for:
1. Must be in excellent condition (no rust, no mechanical problems)
2. Fairly low miles based on the year (anything older than 1990 is fine)
3. 4 wheel drive w/Standard transmission

other "nice to have" features:
- CD Player, upgraded audio

i am willing to go up to $5K

Just a personal note:  I would never buy a vehicle from my father-in-law, cough, crook, cough.. but the auction is a good place to look if you have connections, you can save a ton a money.

What you need to do is good to the auction with the person who has access.  While there, sometimes, the keys are in the vehicle.  But, you can look it over and pretty much tell what kind of condition it's in..but you have to know what you're looking for (ie: bad u-joints, body panels that don't line up right, different tones of color, excessive oil, signs of welding, funny smells..etc.  You can also pull the VIN number and run it through car fax are something like that.

If your are legitimately interested I can get you in touch with him.  I went down to the auction with him the night before, because they have the keys in all the cars.  We just hopped in and cruised around in it first, checked things out, etc.

Could I interest you in a ford ranger?
When it comes to cars, you have three options: Fast, Cheap, and Reliable. And you can only pick two.

@Jeff...it's 4WD, right? what year is it? conidition?

@Damon, yeah, let me know how I can get in touch with this guy. I would still need to go to the bank and secure the financing before actually going to the auction.

I'm also thinking about a Nissan Xterra too. American versus import....hmmm, tough choice.

I wouldn't get the Xterra...I had the SC/SE for about a year.  We were totally disappointed with it, horrible gas mileage, didn't ride very nice, not a lot of power for having a supercharger.  Oh, and it de-valued over $8,000 in one year.  Import suv's do not hold any value, whereas the Chevy's and Ford's and what not do hold their value a lot better.

i didn't know that, but i am really just looking for something that will get me through winter, but re-sell value is still important. i just like the look of the xterra more than anything. I'd still prolly go with the wrangler.

Yeah, we went with the xterra because it does look nice, but it didn't get anywhere near the advertised mpg.  I would go with a Jeep...very reliable.

actually i was looking at land cruisers on the internet a while ago, early-mid 90's models are still going for $10,000-$15,000. thats quite a lot for a 10 year old SUV. just depends on the make and model, toyota seems to have a high resale value with their trucks and SUV's.
