which turbo for 2000 Civic EX?
« on: 11:23AM 04/25/2004 »
Everyone talks up Drag as quality so I'm considering that.  I also get fatty discounts with GReddy so that's a plus.

Suggestions?  Other brands, etc.?

Hmmm... a few hundred more for Drag on retail vs. retail.  But, with the discounts I get on GReddy it would be about a $1000 cheaper for me to get GReddy.

i think drag...well take into consideration the following

Drag pro......t3/t4 turbo...big intercooler....lots of power ..great fitments

drag con.....no instructions(if you are smart-dosn't matter)...missing a few little things you will have to have like the oil return line hookups...you will have use a custom hose...also the oil pan you will have to weld a part on too it.

greddy pro...electronic fuel management/injectors...great fitment

greddy con... really small turbo and piping...you wanna run 13's this is not the kit unless you plan on doing internal motor upgrades

base line.....greddy retail.....$2959 with NO intercooler add $ 900 hundred more for intercooler

Drag retail ....$3000 everything

you decide........
Dont think a muffler, intake, and some stickers make you fast!

uhh, the GReddy kit doesnt cost anywhere near 2,959, and DRAG isnt 3,000.

first off, the GReddy kit for 96-00 Civic EX is about 1,950, and the DRAG kit is around $2,600-$2,800. i dont know what kinda deals you get with GReddy, but i imagine it would cost MUCH cheaper than DRAG.

the GReddy also comes with a 19T turbo, which is basically a larger version of the 15G that's included in the 92-95 kit. its good for at least 18lbs of boost, and i doubt you'll even run more than 10-12 unless you build your motor. the new kits also come with the E-manage that's pre-tuned for your car, and can be re-tuned anytime you want, and the 96-00 includes a set of 310cc injectors.

aslo, kits like DRAG and MaxRev are not bolt on, they require modification of charge pipes, etc... the GReddy kit bolts right on and fits the first time. and you can get the type 34 FMIC kit for your car and that will bolt right on also.

MaxRev is much more customizable than GReddy or DRAG, you can select the trim and polish of the turbo, polish of the manifold/downpipe, and you can choose from a few different engine management systems. the charge pipes are DIY, so you'll have to cut them yourself or have a shop cut/weld them. both MaxRev and DRAG come with T3/T4 turbo's and external wastegates, where the GReddy kits have mitsubishi internally wastegated turbos.

i personally think you should go for the GReddy kit since you already get a discount on it, and it also comes with injectors and fuel management, where DRAG doesn't include either. but you should also look into MaxRev, they're about the same cost as DRAG but have much more options.

you can always upgrade your turbo, wastegate and manifold later
and if you want my two cents i would go with the Greddy for the fuel management and the discounts
Japan was awesome. But now it's time to try out Virgina.

16G.  Run 6psi.  Change your internals, run 17psi.

The Greddy is the only one that will pass emissions...since you live in Salt Lake County legally.

Rev hard makes really good kits, but their stage one, which is about the same as maxrev or drag, retails at like 3,500-4,000, so i'd stay away from them unless you're blingin'

Get the Greddy kit. After looking at the two kits they are both shady. Just make the call and get the Greddy. Then add an intercooler later on.
